Each year, James Lyng High School’s music program release a year-end mixtape, the culmination of student’s work throughout the year. Rap and beat-making projects are presented along side R&B covers and original songs by rock bands. The school’s entrepreneurship class helps record, curate and promote the release. “Ferocious” was released at the end of the 2018-2019 school year, featuring 15 songs from the school’s rock back and rappers. Nine original student band songs were recorded at Up Next Studios, complemented by six tracks by the school’s rappers. Our best mixtape to date.
“The Pride” was released at the end of the 2017-2018 school year. For the first time, recordings from the school’s rock bands were included, including original songs from the James Lyng Honour Band and from the Secondary 5 music class.
“Up Next Mixtape #2” was released at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. It features hip hop tracks written and recorded with WORD and in the school’s music classes along side R&B covers from the school’s choir and student beat-making projects.
“Up Next Mixtape #1” was the school’s first year-end mixtape and was released at the end of the 2015-2016 school year. It also marked the start of the Up Next Recordings imprint. The mixtape featured R&B covers from the school’s choir, hip hop tracks from WORD and the from the school’s music classes, as well as instrumental electronic tracks.
